Mayor of Wyre, Councillor Russell Forsyth, recently braved the winter weather to launch of Hawley Gardens, a new local housing development named in honour of the late councillor and former Deputy Mayor, Peter Hawley.

Councillor Russell Forsyth was joined by the Mayoress, Christine Forsyth, and Deputy Mayoress, Sue Hawley, at the commemorative groundbreaking of the site, which is being built by in conjunction with NPL Estates and Wyre Borough Council.
Councillor Forsyth commented: “It is wonderful honour to see work officially start on site at Hawley Gardens and, as one of Peter’s closest friends and colleagues, I am very proud indeed to see this lasting legacy to Peter and the splendid work he did for the people in the local area.
“Hawleys Gardens is an excellent example of a quality family housing development which is being built on a brownfield site to regenerate and enhance the local community. It mirrors everything that Peter would have wanted to ensure where determining planning applications in his earlier role of Chairman of the Planning Committee. It also complements the massive local regeneration work which Peter spearheaded to transform the local area.”
The Councillor was very well respected within the Thornton local area, so we are honoured to be able to pay our respects by naming this new community in his honour. We hope that the forthcoming new residents of this development enjoy the area as much as the Councillor did.
